We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Software Engineer
Principal responsibilities
Risk IT is an important global functional unit responsible for delivering risk management IT solutions to support all HSBC’s regions and business lines, covering areas like Global Banking and Markets, Retail, and Wholesale Credit Risk, ensuring that risk performance is in accordance with the Group Risk Strategy. As a provider of banking and financial services, risk is at the core of HSBC’s day-to-day activities. Actively managing risk covers a wide range of activities from identifying and analyzing current and emerging risks, to embedding risk appetite, enhancing our controls, strengthening our risk management capabilities and much more.
Guangzhou Tech Center is one of the strategic locations in the Risk IT global blueprint. We are looking for an engineering lead to join the Traded Risk IT leadership team, to drive new strategic platform delivery and project delivery in key areas of the Traded Risk functional area and work as PoD lead to lead the local team to work closely with business stakeholders.
The Global Risk Cloud services will work within an agile team of Engineers and building cloudlego product for the highly resilient, scalable and performant GCP infrastructure in an automated and efficient manner. The DevOps engineers will work alongside the Application DevOps teams and cross-Risk IT teams. The engineers will be required to use their initiative to innovate to achieve maximum performance and be prepared to investigate and use new products/services offered by GCP.
Impact on the The Cloud DevOps engineers will work within the Risk Cloud Service team, who are responsible for building highly resilient, scalable, reusable and performant multiple Cloud infrastructure (GCP & AWS) in an automated and efficient manner.
The Cloud DevOps engineers will work across the DevOps organization, core Cloud Platform team to ensure that we are delivering functional patterns that are secure-by-design and compliant with HSBC mandatory policies and security standards.
- Build and manage the HSBC Cloud foundation platform to enable application deployments
- Engineer solutions on multiple Cloud foundation platform using Infrastructure-as-Code methods (e.g. Terraform)
- Execute the functional pattern lifecycle process (design, document, develop and maintain) code library
- Integrate, configure, deploy and manage centrally provided common cloud services (e.g. IAM, networking, monitoring, Operating systems, Containers.)
- Manage multiple Cloud connectivity and networking e.g. DNS, IP allocation and traffic routing, etc
- Consume centrally agreed base HSBC Hardened OS (Linux and Windows)
- Ensure compliance with centrally defined Security
- Ensure compliancy with Operational risk standards (E.g. Network, Firewall, OS, Logging, Monitoring, Availability, Resiliency)
- Build and support continuous integration (CI), continuous delivery (CD) and continuous testing activities
- Engineering activities to implement patches provided centrally
- Support non-functional testing
- Update support and operational documentation as required
- Fault find and support Applications teams
- Maintain and advance deep technical skills and knowledge, keeping up to date with market trends and competitive insights, and share within the technical community
- HSBC standards Business contingency standards
- Develop and promote the reuse of patterns
- Be an multiple Cloud Platform evangelist with customers, partners and external communities
- Provide Management reporting to ensure data driven discussions for continuous improvement
Requirements
The ideal candidate for this role will have the below experience and qualifications:
- Experience of building a range of Services in multiple Cloud
- Expert understanding of DevOps principles and Infrastructure-as-Code concepts and techniques
- Proficient understanding and implementation of CI/CD pipeline on multiple technology stacks
- Security and Compliance, e.g. IAM and cloud compliance/auditing/monitoring tools
- Customer/stakeholder focus. Ability to build strong relationships with Application teams, cross functional IT and global/local IT teams
- Good leadership and teamwork skills - Works collaboratively in an agile environment with DevOps application ‘pods’ to provide multiple Cloud specific capability/skills required to deliver the service
- Operational effectiveness - delivers solutions that align to approved design patterns and security standards
- Risk management effectiveness
- Excellent skills in at least one of following: ARM, Powershell and Terraform
- Experience in dealing with multiple support groups that contribute to a service
- A track record of constantly looking for ways to do things better and an excellent understanding of the mechanism necessary to successfully implement change
- Set and achieved challenging short, medium and long term goals which exceeded the standards in their field
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in Mandarin and English; an ability to communicate with impact, ensuring complex information is articulated in a meaningful way to wide and varied audiences
Essential Skills
- Demonstrable multiple Cloud experience - infrastructure build and configurations of a variety of services including Compute, Storage, SDN Managing their own time and prioritising workloads
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipeline on multiple technology stacks
- Experience working with highly available/high-load web infrastructure e.g. web proxies, reverse proxies
- Technical knowledge and breadth of multiple Cloud technology services (Identity, Networking, Compute, Storage, Web, Mobile, Containers, Databases, Analytics, AI & Machine learning)
- Have excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
- Demonstrable risk management knowledge
- Keen problem solving skills (Analytical and Creative)
- Experience working within an Agile team environment
- Ability to quickly acquire new skills
Desirable Skills
- Industry recognised cloud certifications
- Programming experience in the following languages: PowerShell, Terraform, Go, Bash, Windows command prompt and object orientated programming languages
- Demonstrable experience of Linux administration and scripting preferably Red Hat
- Experience operating in highly regulated industry, e.g. Financial Services
Good to have skills and certifications
• GCP Certifications - ideally professional
• Linux Certification
